Economic
Democracy Project, Inc.
Wecome to EDP! Thank you for
visiting. We are a New York not-for-profit
corporation. Our website is just getting
started but, like our organization, it is
growing every month.
We would
like to thank all the Fouding Funders and
First Funders who have contributed to our
initial funding efforts. With their
help, we have now filed our 501c3 application
(for federal nonprofit status under the
Internal Revenue Code).
We of course welcome further support.
Because our 501c3 application is still pending
approval, your donation
today will not be tax deductible.
Please explore our site and consider
joining our effort. We look forward to
hearing from you.
We also invite you to visit the EDP
blog and join the conversation!

Worker Cooperatives
The University of
Wisconsin’s Center for
Cooperatives reported in 2009
that the U.S. has 223 worker
cooperatives employing about
2,380 people and generating
about $220 million in annual
revenues. In the context
of the total U.S. economy,
these numbers are miniscule
and pale in comparison to the
size and impact of the
Mondragon cooperatives in
Spain’s Basque country.
The Mondragon Cooperative
Corporation includes 256
companies employing nearly
85,000 people and generating
nearly $20 billion in annual
revenues.

Community
Supported Agriculture
In the U.S.,
organic food was once
enjoyed by all, later by
almost nobody, and, more
recently, by a privileged
few. Originally
abundant, organic food has
now become a scarce
commodity whose premium
prices make it largely
inaccessible to the hard
working many.
Community Supported
Agriculture entities, or
“CSAs,” can change
that. By
establishing direct
relationships between
consumer communities and
sustainable local farms,
CSAs change the economics
of organic food. In
percentage terms, CSAs are
in their infancy. . . . more .
